Urbana Riding Club Lesson Schedule, Leasing and Practice Ride Programs

        ***************************************************************************************
Lessons: We accept students ages 4 through adult into our lesson program.  Children ages 4-7 are encouraged to enroll in our individually assisted group lessons initially to safely gain the needed strength and coordination to handle a horse in a group situation.  When possible, we place students in age-appropriate groups of 4 to 8 students.  Our lessons run on weekday afternoons and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Urbana Riding Club invites you to take a FREE INTRODUCTORY LESSON where you’ll get a chance to see the facilities, meet our staff and horses, and sample a lesson with no cost or obligation.  Please look at our lesson schedule below  to choose an appropriate lesson then fill out the lesson form from
important forms and mail or fax it in... or contact our office to schedule.

We do not require formal riding attire; long pants and closed-toe shoes with a short heel are fine.  We have riding helmets to lend you initially to minimize your expenses while you are giving the exciting sport of horseback riding a try.

Our qualified instructors are continually improving themselves by competing and participating in clinics.  They pass their experiences and other valuable information on to their students in a way that is both fun and challenging, with emphasis on safety and kindness to the horses.

Practice Rides: Practice Rides offer members the opportunity to practice riding and horse care skills without the expense and responsibility of owning a horse.  Urbana Riding Club's Practice Rides are scheduled through the office and are generally held on Saturday afternoons at 1:00.  A trained staff member will help with tacking the horse and supervise the riding. If you are a current leaser that would like to do practice rides in the summer when leasing is not an option, you may ride when you like but URC may choose which horse.

Email urc@urbanaridingclub.com, call our office at 301.874.2000 or talk to your instructor to sign up

Leasing: This is an unsupervised program which allows students to practice their riding skills without the expense and responsibility of owning their own horse.  Program runs fall through spring. Note the leasing program is not offered for the summer quarter due to the camp program.  We do still offer practice rides in the summer.

*The riding school has priority over the use of the horses, you may choose a different horse to ride if "your" horse is being used.  Ask the instructor which horse is appropriate.

*Leasers must be enrolled in weekly riding lessons at Urbana Riding Club.

*Instructor approval is necessary to lease.

*Leaser must be at least 10 years of age.

*No riding in the indoor arena during lessons without instructor approval..

*No jumping without prior instructor permission.

*No jumping cross country

*Urbana Riding Club trails only

*Never ride alone

Costs:
Urbana Riding Club costs are based on the program that best suits your needs.   Payments are made quarterly (three months) and are due 15 days prior to the beginning of the program in order to assure your spot.  You may begin lessons at any time as we can prorate the first payment.  The full day summer activity program fills quickly.

Fall Lesson Schedule

         Updated 8/30/10

Only persons on this list may ride!   If there is availability in the lesson, you may join the current session at a prorated cost after contacting the office.

There is a 185lb weight limit for persons riding URC horses.

Fall Quarter Lesson Registration needs to be paid by August 15th for current students to guarantee your spot.  After the 15th it will be open to the general public.  You MUST be registered (form filled out & turned in including payment with the forms) BEFORE (five minutes before doesn’t count) attending a lesson in the new quarter.  Yes, you need to fill out a new form each quarter and no, you may not just bring the payment with you to the first lesson in the quarter.  This will avoid over-crowded lessons and confused staff (we’re easily confused)!  Fall Quarter begins Sept. 1st.

Make-up lessons are done as practice rides Saturday’s at 1:00.  Leadline lessons are the ONLY exception!  You must email or phone ahead when you do a make-up.

Fall Quarter Prices:  The prices are based on 12 lessons in a quarter.  If we schedule fewer than 12 lessons in the quarter than the price will be adjusted.  Persons marked in orange are registered and paid for the Fall session.
